AI Video Editing

Turn a simple screen recording into a polished, professional product demo — with Claude, without traditional video editing.

This workflow is especially useful for:

  • AI tool demos
  • SaaS product walkthroughs
  • App tutorials
  • Website demos
  • Product launches
  • Feature explainers
  • Instagram Reels
  • YouTube Shorts
  • LinkedIn product videos

Page 1 — The Complete Workflow

01. Record Your Raw Product Demo

Start with a clean screen recording of the product, website, or workflow you want to explain.

Don't worry about adding:

  • Transitions
  • Zoom effects
  • Animations
  • Text overlays
  • Sound effects
  • Background music

The goal at this stage is simply to capture the raw actions.

Example: Say you're creating a product demo showing how to create videos using Google Flow. Your raw recording could show: opening Google Flow, selecting the relevant feature, uploading an image, adding your prompt, generating the video, and showing the final result.

Recording tips:

  • Keep your screen clean
  • Close unnecessary tabs and applications
  • Move your cursor intentionally
  • Avoid random mouse movements
  • Perform actions slightly slower than normal

This gives the editor enough visual information to create better zooms and transitions. Don't worry if the recording looks boring — that's exactly what we'll fix in the next steps.

02. Keep Your Recording Short

Claude works better when the video is divided into smaller sections.

Recommended length: 10–20 seconds per clip.

If your original recording is 60 seconds long, don't upload the entire thing as one massive clip. Instead, split it: Clip 1 (10–15 sec), Clip 2 (10–20 sec), Clip 3 (10–20 sec), Clip 4 (10–15 sec). You can later combine the edited clips into one complete video.

Why split the video? Shorter clips make it easier to highlight individual actions, add precise zoom effects, create smoother transitions, emphasize important clicks, maintain a fast pace, and control the final edit.

03. Open Claude Design

Once your raw footage is ready:

  • Open Claude
  • Go to Claude Design
  • Select Animations
  • Upload your raw product demo clip

Now Claude has the visual context it needs to understand what is happening on your screen.

04. Add the Editing Prompt

After uploading your video, give Claude a clear instruction about what you want it to do.

Master Prompt: "Turn this raw screen recording into a professional, engaging product demo video. Analyze the actions happening in the recording and enhance the video without changing the actual workflow. Add smooth transitions between important actions, subtle zoom-ins when the user clicks or interacts with an important element, and zoom-outs when necessary to restore context. Use motion and visual emphasis to guide the viewer's attention toward the most important actions on screen. Keep the editing modern, clean, and professional. Do not add unnecessary effects or distracting animations. Maintain the original screen content and ensure that all important UI elements remain visible and readable. The final result should feel like a professionally edited SaaS/product demo video designed for social media. Prioritize clarity, pacing, and visual storytelling over excessive effects."

05. Let Claude Analyze Your Video

After you submit the prompt, Claude may ask you a few questions. Don't rush through these — Claude may need additional information about the purpose of the video, the target audience, the desired visual style, which actions are most important, how much animation you want, and what should receive visual emphasis.

The golden rule: tell Claude what the viewer needs to notice. For example: "The most important action is clicking the Generate button. Make this interaction visually prominent with a subtle zoom and motion." This gives Claude a clear editing direction.

06. Use Zooms to Guide Attention

One of the easiest ways to make a screen recording feel professionally edited is to use intentional zooms. Instead of showing the entire screen throughout the video, zoom into the important action, then return to full screen.

For example: the user moves toward the Generate button. Claude can zoom in, highlight the button, show the click, then zoom out. This makes a simple screen recording feel much more dynamic.

07. Add Motion & Transitions

Your raw recording may contain several actions happening one after another. Use transitions to make those actions feel connected. Good transitions include smooth zoom, camera-style movement, subtle slide, quick push-in, focus transition, and motion between sections.

Avoid over-editing. The goal isn't to make every second flashy — it's to make the viewer understand what is happening without getting bored. Think: Action → Emphasis → Transition → Next Action.

08. Create a Clear Visual Hierarchy

Not every action in your product demo is equally important. Identify the 3–5 most important moments in the recording.

Google Flow demo example: 01 — Upload image → 02 — Add prompt → 03 — Click Generate → 04 — Show generated video. These are the moments that deserve the most visual attention — your editing should make these moments immediately obvious.

09. Keep the Editing Social-Media Friendly

If you're creating this for Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts, keep the pacing fast.

Recommended format: aspect ratio 9:16, keep it as short as possible, important actions clearly visible, text large and readable, motion fast but smooth. Avoid long periods where nothing changes on screen.

A useful rule: if nothing important is happening, cut it.

10. Repeat for Longer Videos

If your original product demo is longer than 20 seconds, don't try to force the entire video into one generation. Instead: split the raw video into clips (e.g. four 15-second clips), upload each clip separately to Claude, then combine the edited clips together in your preferred video editor. This gives you much more control over the final video.

11. Final Quality Checklist

Before publishing, watch the entire video once. Check:

  • Clarity — can someone understand what is happening without getting confused?
  • Zoom — are the zooms focused on the correct UI elements?
  • Cursor — is the cursor/action easy to follow?
  • Transitions — are transitions smooth rather than distracting?
  • Mobile readability — can you clearly see the important buttons and text on a phone?
  • Pacing — does the video move quickly enough to maintain attention?
  • Effects — are animations helping the story rather than distracting from it?

If everything looks good, your product demo is ready to publish.

The Complete Workflow at a Glance

Record a clean raw screen demo, with no transitions, zooms, or overlays yet.

Split longer recordings into 10–20 second clips for tighter, more controllable edits.

Open Claude Design → Animations → upload your clip.

Prompt Claude to add professional transitions, zooms, motion, and visual emphasis — then answer its follow-up questions about style and priority.

Review pacing, zooms, transitions, and readability before combining clips and publishing.

Pro Tip

Don't think of Claude as simply a video editor. Think of it as an AI editing assistant that can analyze what's happening on your screen and determine where visual emphasis can improve the viewer's experience. The better your raw recording and instructions are, the better the final result can be.

Remember: Clean recording + Clear prompt + Short clips + Intentional visual emphasis = Better product demos.
