The idea is simple:

Script → Storyboard → Reference Images → Animated Video Clips → Final Edit → Publish

Instead of hiring a video editor for every Reel, you can build the entire video yourself using AI tools.

1. What This Workflow Does

This workflow is designed for creators who have a script but don't want to spend hours editing videos or depend on a professional video editor.

You give ChatGPT your finalised script.

ChatGPT converts it into a scene-by-scene storyboard.

For every scene, you create a reference image that establishes the visual style.

You then take each image into Google Flow, give it the visual direction and voiceover, and ask it to create a highly animated, motion-heavy video clip.

Finally, you download all the clips, combine them in Edits, add any final text/music/captions, and export the Reel.

2. Step 1 — Create Your Script

Start with the idea you want to turn into a Reel.

Use ChatGPT to create a short, engaging script.

For Instagram Reels, keep the script focused around:

  • A strong hook
  • One clear problem
  • One solution
  • A simple workflow
  • A strong CTA

For example:

“You don't need a video editor to create your videos anymore. You just need Google Flow and a few AI tools…”

Before moving to the next step, finalize your script.

Don't start generating visuals while the script is still changing. The storyboard and images will be based on this script.

3. Step 2 — Turn the Script Into a Storyboard

Take the finalised script and give it to ChatGPT.

Ask ChatGPT to divide the script into multiple scenes using the prompt below.

PROMPT

For every scene, ask it to provide:

Scene number

The order in which the scene appears.

Voiceover

The exact sentence(s) that will be spoken during that scene.

Visual

What should be shown on screen while the voiceover is playing.

Motion / Animation Direction

How the visual should move.

For example:

Visual:

A complicated video-editing timeline with multiple layers, clips and effects.

Motion:

The timeline rapidly moves and then collapses into a simple AI workflow.

This is important because you're not simply creating a collection of images.

You're creating images specifically designed to become video.

4. Step 3 — Establish Your Visual Style

Before generating the scene images, find a consistent visual style.

One easy way is to use Pinterest.

Search for visual references based on the style you want.

For example:

  • 3D animation
  • Cinematic animation
  • Cartoon illustration
  • Minimal motion graphics
  • Clay animation
  • Pixar-inspired visuals
  • Editorial illustration
  • Futuristic UI

Save several reference images that represent the look and feel you want.

Important

Don't randomly choose a different style for every scene.

Your references should establish a consistent:

This makes the final Reel feel like one professionally produced video, rather than a collection of unrelated AI-generated clips.

5. Step 4 — Generate One Image for Every Scene

Now generate a reference image for each storyboard scene.

The image doesn't need to contain every animation.

Its primary purpose is to establish the starting visual for Google Flow.

Create an image showing:

The important thing is to make the image visually communicate the idea.

Maintain consistency

When generating multiple scenes, try to maintain:

  • Similar composition
  • Similar level of detail

This gives Google Flow a stronger visual foundation.

6. Step 5 — Take the Images Into Google Flow

Now comes the most important part.

Open Google Flow and use each scene image as the reference.

For every scene, provide:

7. The Google Flow Prompt

A simple reusable prompt structure:

Create a high-energy, graphically animated video using the reference image and voiceover. Add lots of dynamic motion, smooth transitions, expressive visual movement, and strong animation that communicates the scene clearly. Make the animation feel polished, engaging, and professional.

8. Why Motion Is Important

The reference image is only the starting point.

The final video should not feel like a static image with a camera zoom.

Ask for movement inside the scene.

Think about:

  • Characters reacting
  • Camera movement
  • Zooms
  • Transitions
  • Elements assembling/disassembling

9. Step 6 — Generate Every Scene Separately

Repeat the process for every scene.

Download each completed clip.

10. Step 7 — Assemble Everything in Edits

Once all your clips are ready, open the Edits app.

Import all your video clips.

Then make the final adjustments:

  • Add captions
